A classic beauty in a contemporary jacket.
This striking and stately house is one of the jewels of the Diepenheimseweg in Goor. Several genuine merchant houses can be found here, forming one of the region’s oldest linear settlements. The success of early industry was translated into beautifully designed houses in this region, and Diepenheimseweg 29 is an ode to this glorious period. The classicist pediment, the detailing and the symmetrical construction of the house give it the kind of beauty that comes with the years; only then do the modern elements stand out. The balance in the house is flawless; the dimensions are spacious, but with an eye for the human scale. The forms are classical, but the interpretation is contemporary and warm. Despite the enormous living area of 959 m2, this house feels like a warm coat. The design of the house and the applied materials are of high quality. Nothing on and in this house is standard; the shapes and colours, the use of textiles, the layout ... everything has been thought about and everything together creates a truly beautiful, warm and simply lovely family home.
The house is located in Kevelhammerhoek, a spacious neighbourhood with characteristic houses and lots of space for water and greenery. And that greenery is also closer to home; the large plot of 3,778 m2 is professionally and visionary styled, with a beautiful classic division in the front garden and a park garden at the back with huge oak trees and - as a lovely surprise - a rustic garden house. Across the road is nature reserve De Meene, and the Weldam estate is also nearby.
The centre of Goor, with all amenities, is less than five minutes away by bike. The A1 motorway is less than ten minutes away by car, while the train station is within five minutes walking distance.
The large and grand, dark grey two-piece front door swings open. The large hall is warm and welcoming. What a height! The floor is magnificent light travertine, which runs into the steps of the central staircase. This is one of those stairs that is the ideal setting for a wedding scene or a family picture. A fairy tale. The large hall is the central part of the house; very classic. The details are sublime; the ceilings are finished with decorative mouldings and a direct reference to the classicist architectural style on which this design is based.
Adjacent to the hall, clockwise, the meter cupboard, the library annex office space, the corridor to the adjoining part of the garage and the master bedroom, the cloakroom, pantry, kitchen, living room and WC.
Starting with the warm beating heart of the house: The kitchen is extensive with high ceilings, and a true feast in terms of layout and design. The floor has large tiles of dark Belgian bluestone. The big eye-catcher is the gas fireplace which has been elevated. It's a lovely place to sit together, on the kitchen island - with a cup of tea or a glass - and discuss the day.
The kitchen island, made of beautiful grey veined natural stone and wood, contributes to the warm atmosphere in the house. Colour has been very deliberately used in this house. White can - certainly with the large surfaces in this house - give a room a somewhat businesslike appearance. This space is the opposite, it is warm and cosy. Wooden fronts on the cabinets. A beautiful six-burner stove with large oven, under a hood that is a large mantelpiece.
The kitchen is equipped with state-of-the-art appliances, everything is there.
On the garden side of the kitchen, which has the atmosphere of an orangery because of the glass all round, is the kitchen table. Ten people can easily sit down, and still the space will not feel full.
The covered terrace - also with the large stone tiles - is a continuation of the dining room. Outdoors and indoors come together here. A large canopy with generous roof lights has been chosen for a natural and light space, and it does justice to the dimensions of the house. It is precisely this kind of statement that makes everything feel 'good' about this house, because the starting point everywhere is balance. Here again there is room for a large table. On the left a terrace with sitting area. A lovely place to enjoy long afternoons and evenings in the garden, with or without the help of the design heaters.
From the kitchen and hallway - through a beautiful arch with glass doors – there is access to the living room. The sandstone mantelpiece with an authentic fireplace, in combination with the predominantly mauve-coloured walls provide a fine place to be together with family and relatives. The wooden floor has a classic herringbone pattern. The living room adjoins the television room on the garden side, or the home cinema, because there is plenty of room for that! This room can be closed off from the living room by en suite-doors and has patio doors to the sun terrace on the garden side.
Accessible from the kitchen and the hall is the pantry. Coming from the garden, take a minute to take off your boots and put your coat near the radiator. With a sink, a separate washbasin and a mantelpiece with hood, this is a fine addition to the kitchen.
Accessible from the hall access is the master bedroom. On the ground floor, so no inconveniences caused by the children coming home late, or by guests staying upstairs. A beautiful room, overlooking the garden. Here again plenty of space, and beautiful detailing in ornamental frames on the ceilings. From the room the walk-in closet, with beautiful custom-made wardrobes with ornamental profiles.
The walk-in closet adjoins the bathroom, which surprises in every way. Under a starry sky in the middle of the room is a large, round whirlpool with room for four adults. Alcoves with lighting have been built into the rounded walls. To the right in the corner is a walk-in shower, to the left is a double washbasin.
Between the study and the dormitory, a hallway leads to the second entrance of the house, and the spacious double garage. A great space, because two cars, the bicycles, the workbench and the handymen's stuff will all fit in here with ease. The space is tiled up to a third of the wall height, making it easy to clean.
On the right front side of the house is the library, with a custom-made bookcase. This is a nice workspace where several people can do office work. Working or practicing from home is ideal here.
Upstairs, the landing provides access to no fewer than five large bedrooms. The landing encloses the central staircase and provides access to the beautiful balcony above the front door. All rooms are spacious and painted in calm, atmospheric tones that all combine equally well with the cream-colored woodwork. The room on the right front side is ideal for small children, as there is a cabin built into the wall.
On the left from the staircase, at the end of the corridor, is the large laundry attic. All the laundry can be hung out to dry here, without having to depend on the weather conditions. Great with a big family!
The bathroom is centrally located, and also exciting in terms of design. In the middle is a large, semi-circular curb in which the bathtub is recessed. Next to the bath is a heated area to quickly heat bath towels. A double washbasin completes this fine bathroom.
Next to the children's room is the staircase to the attic. The attic runs over the entire upper floor and offers a sea of possibilities. A sports room, a workspace, a workshop, a storage room... And you don't have to choose; it is so big that it can all be realized! Finally, there is a loft ladder to the flat roof of the house.
The garden is in line with the house in terms of proportions. The park-like layout offers a lot of privacy and space. A garden to enjoy summer days, make a large snowman at the first snowfall, or play with the dog. To the right in the back of the garden is a gazebo with a bar and a fireplace, a great place to enjoy a barbecue and garden parties with family and friends.
