Modern monumental living in a former windmill near Lochem
This beautiful, monumental mill - locally known as the Maas Mölle - has been integrated with contemporary architecture, creating a particularly attractive, spacious and light house; classic and modern go hand in hand here. In historical records, the presence of a windmill was first mentioned back in 1743; the current mill was built in 1870. Due to the growth of the surrounding forests, wind power decreased and the mill became obsolete. It was converted into a house and completely rebuilt in the last decade.
The house offers lots of living space, 356 m2, and includes seven bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a fantastic kitchen. Surrounded by natural beauty, the house is on a massive plot of 3,280 m2, located on a quiet country road near Laren in the Lochem municipality, just 20 minutes from Zutphen and 12 minutes from the A1 motorway; perfect for peace seekers who do not want to live isolated.
Entrance into the hall, full of light because of a glass roof, with the meter cupboard, a wardrobe and toilet with hand basin. Beautiful natural materials were used for the house, with dark gray natural stone on the hall floor.
At the rear of the house, on the left you’ll find the study. While ideal for a practice, studio or home office, it could also be turned into a spacious master bedroom with private bathroom.
The structure of the old mill with the original openings and detailing remains beautifully visible and houses the living room and a staircase to the first floor. The living room flows naturally into the dining room and the stunning kitchen, equipped with a stone cooking island with dark brown fronts and a bar. The open kitchen has extensive appliances, including a beautiful 6-burner gas stove with hot air oven, stainless steel extractor hood and passage to the pantry with wall cabinets and the rear entrance. The cabinet walls are also in walnut veneer and give the kitchen a stylish character. The sliding doors provide plenty of natural light and access to the large terrace.
In the main house there are three spacious bedrooms, each with spectacular views over the surrounding meadows. On the floor is a dark laminate and in the modern bathroom with concrete walls, once again the gray natural stone and walnut veneer drawer fronts. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, bathtub, wash basin, toilet and access on two sides - from the landing and from the bedroom at the rear of the house, which has a large walk-in closet.
On the second floor is a spacious bedroom with a simple bathroom with shower, toilet and wash basin, as well as two other bedrooms. On top of the mill stump, a beautiful roof terrace with a panoramic view has been created.
At the entrance is a paved outdoor area with a large wide double lockable garage. The mature garden facing south-west is beautifully designed and offers lots of privacy. In the garden there is also a shed for the lawnmower and other tools.
